Great to find your page. As a teenager, I visited a family of Chilean refugees near Balloch back in 1976 and have fond memories of that time. I admired them for their great courage.

Thank you very much for creating this wonderful resource, Carlos. I am from Scotland but recently lived for some months in Barrio Yungay in Santiago, very close to where you grew up, where I witnessed the uprisings against the Piñera government and neoliberalism. The Chilean people are incredible in their strength and defiance, and they were extremely welcoming towards me.

Since I sadly had to leave Chile in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, I've been delighted to find your website. It's brought me a lot of pleasure to listen to your music and poetry and to learn more about Chilean exiles in Scotland, and I really appreciate your effort in creating this resource. Your work is really fantastic and it's great to think that we have our own wee chapter of the Nueva Canción movement here in Scotland. I'll be sure to share the website with friends both here and in Chile.

Gracias

Thank you Carlos.
This website was not just a springboard to my interest of Chilean exiles in the UK, but an extremely valuable resource in what became my undergraduate dissertation. I believe without it my arguments would have fallen short.
From Carlos' own personal histories related to performing music and poetry, to the wider efforts of Chilean and British people alike to stop the Pinochet regime are brilliant. The effort gone into detailing the different initiatives with original pamphlets documents and testimonials is outstanding, and radiate Carlos' passion around the subject. It is a kind reminder of how international compassion can help others, and solidarity even from a distance is never a useless effort.
Thank you for all the help and providing an important resource in memory of Chile.
Saludos

Today I was able to make a great presentation thanks to Carlos. He gave me a while ago some of his time to answer some of my questions about exile here in Scotland, as well as recommending me his website which gave me a lot of insight, and enhanced my research and made my presentation a success! As a young person that did not know much about exile and what happened during the dictatorship, I found the information he gave me fascinating. Thank you so much for all the help that you have given me!!

Gracias! Many thanks to Carlos Arredondo for sharing his art and his heart at our Día de los Muertos concert at Queens Hall in Edinburgh. Also, many thanks for donating his fee to P.R.I.S.M.A, an organization in Mexico which takes the arts to rural schools where children do not normally have acces to them. Such a generous action that will serve to help others. The children will be delighted. Gracias amigo!

Carlos Arredondo has been a life-long and very valued friend to the Welcoming Association since it began in 2000. He has been a great supporter of the work of the organisation and has been a guest at many of our social and cultural events to help us raise awareness of the plight and struggle of refugees from all over the World and especially the great contribution that they can make to Scotland. His poetry and his songs are powerful and passionate calls for hope, peace, compassion, solidarity and understanding that urge and rally communities too unite and work together to accept newcomers. We thank Carlos for his great songs and poetry rradings that he performed at our recent New Scots Celebration in November of this year and hope to work with him again in 2018.

Hello and thank you! The refugees you are talking about were not from Peru but from Chile. There were a few refugees living in Balloch by 1974. I remember it well because I used to visit a family there to do some music. These families left for London for what I know. Thanks to all the people of Balloch for the comprehension and solidarity with the people of Chile.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything. Nevertheless think about if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with pics and videos, this website could undeniably be one of the greatest in its field. Good blog!
